So, you would like to treat your partner, and yourself of course to a romantic dining experience but where are the best places in Andorra to go for an unforgettable meal? The kind of ‘let’s get dressed up and hit the town to wine and dine ourselves place’. A ‘yes please we would like to see the wine list’ kind of place. A ‘let’s order 3 desserts to share just because they look insane’ kind of place. You get the idea. I am very happy to say that Andorra does not disappoint. Over the years I have been very lucky to have some memorable romantic dinners here and am also happy to share my top 3 personal faves – in no particular order…
One great place to take your love is to the Sports Hotel in Soldeu. They have a restaurant named ‘Origen’ that offers a menu created by the michelin award winning Catalan chef, Nandu Jubany. I would frankly throw caution to the wind and go for the full tasting menu with accompanying wine pairings. It will set you back a few bob, but is utterly delicious and worth the money if you and your partner are foodies. The service is impeccable and the place itself cosy, comfortable and intimate allowing you to stare googly eyed at each other as you navigate your way through a myriad of courses.
For couples looking for a more modern or unique experience then do not hesitate to try ‘Kokosnøt’ in Andorra la Vella. The young couple making waves in Andorra’s culinary scene will wow you with a very different take on Andorran cuisine. The food is thoughtful, thought-provoking and of course, delicious. The desserts can sometimes be theatrical, about which I will say no more in order not to spoil any culinary surprises which will give you and your love a shared experience to take home. The resident sommelier really is a true and passionate wine lover who can offer expert recommendations on pairings and who loves to introduce people to new flavours and textures. If you are in Andorra around Valentine’s day, they usually do a special menu which in my experience is utterly fabulous.
If swanky is not really your schtick and you prefer a less formal, understated type of place that offers gorgeous food, attentive service and fantastic wines then I cannot recommend ‘Gustus’ in La Massana enough. It is a family run restaurant which prides itself on excellent service and excellent food with a low-key, elegant atmosphere to match. They do not disappoint. The menu is well-rounded with sumptuous choices and the desserts are not to be missed. I advise sharing. If you can. If your partner has a super sweet tooth like mine, then grab your spoon and make sure you try some of their dessert before it’s gone!
Each of these places has a special place in my heart (my foodie heart) and I cannot recommend them enough. I have thoroughly enjoyed every occasion I have had in each and hope that if you give them a whirl when visiting Andorra that you like them as much as I do.
